Eco-Tips for a Green Valentine's Day

Approximately 180 million Americans exchanged Valentine's Day cards in one year alone, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, demonstrating how our holiday decisions can have a major impact on the environment.  This year, show your love for the planet & that special someone by making your cards from scratch, selecting those printed on recycled paper, or go extra green by sending an e-card and save a tree!

Diamond's may be a girl's best friend, but sustainability is the real gem that lasts forever. Consider buying heirloom jewelry from a vintage dealer!
Part of the beauty of the season are all those aromatic blooms! This is a great opportunity to support sustainable farming practices by buying organic. Also, instead of giving a cut bouquet, try surprising your loved ones with a floral potted plant! The petals won't wither in a couple days like the uprooted kind, and will symbolize your enduring affections.
Add a little extra sweetness to your treats by giving homemade desserts (like the recipes below). This allows you to make fresh organic recipes and add the best ingredient: a personal touch of love!
